Large Crowd Attends Kala Ukulele Circle At Bertrand’s Music
San Diego, CA

More than sixty enthusiastic beginning musicians of all ages packed Bertrand Music’s first Ukulele Circle, co-sponsored by Kala Brand Music on February 22nd. Bertrand’s promoted and staged the event using Kala’s free downloadable dealer guide, “The Ukulele Circle Starter Kit”. The result was a fun strum-and-sing evening that attracted both non musicians and beginning players.
The starter kit is a step by step guide to organizing a Ukulele Circle that Kala has created in collaboration with ukulele virtuoso and educator, James Hill. It includes songs, chord charts, tips for organizing and leading a circle, and even a poster to help promote the event.
“Our first ukulele circle was a big success” says Jessica Duarte, Bertrand’s VP of Operations. I downloaded the starter kit, read it, and made a plan. We spread the word through social media, in-store marketing, emailing our regular customers, and by hanging posters in the community. We were surprised to see 60 people show up that night. During the day of the event and days that followed we saw an increase in ukulele and accessory sales. We surveyed attendees and used those responses to schedule our next Ukulele Circle. We are starting up a bi-monthly circle next week!”
“Bertrand’s experience is similar to what has been happening across the country,” according to Kala Sales and Marketing Director Rick Carlson. “Dealers are looking for ways to get new customers into their stores. Uke circles are a great way to attract new customers, create new musicians, and increase sales. They also generate a positive customer experience and a sense of community. They are easy to organize at very little cost, and they really work!”.
