The Spalted Maple U•BASS® has spalting in the wood that resembles fine point pen scribbles forming wavy black lines and streaks that contrast beautifully with the lighter colored, two-tone Maple. Black binding adds a nice compliment and ties into the spalting. This U•BASS® has great dynamic range, clarity, tight lows, and ample sustain. Available in a fretted model.

I fell in love with this specific UBass model since I saw it advertised from a local music instruments store. I did a lot of research via Youtube before purchasing, but oh boy, having it in my hands and enjoying it is another different story. Although at first it seems tiny, it really delivers. I love to sit late in the night before going to sleep and practice with it. It works really well amplified too. Looking forward to get another one, a Journeyman.

My husband loved the Spalted Maple UBASS! It’s so easy to get out and enjoy playing and he was surprised how much sound he gets plugged in. It really takes on almost a stand-up bass kind of tone and has great strength! It’s such a beautiful well made instrument and overall we were thrilled with it!

I’m thrilled with my new U-Bass, which I ordered fitted with the flat-wound Kala Gallistrings. Much easier and more fun for me to play than the lower-tension black Road Toad Pahoehoe strings that came on my first U-Bass. The Spalted bass is also lighter than my Solid Spruce Mahogany, which is great as I am a fairly small women with small hands. I’m only a beginner but my new Spalted has completely re-motivated me to practice daily, take lessons again, and strive to become the bassist for my ukulele groups.
My order was handled professionally and promptly by Ash after I pestered him with several questions before I made my selection, and my order arrived within only a few days. Thanks, Ash!
My only hesitation in giving a 5-star rating is my disappointment with the “deluxe” padded white logo Kala gig bag that my Spalted shipped in, which is about half the thickness of the truly deluxe blue-logo Kala padded gig bag that my Solid Spruce Mahogany came with. I would have gladly paid extra for the better bag but don’t even see it available for order on the Kala website. What happened to the higher quality bags? Please bring them back! (Also, please add specs such as bag thicknesses and measurements to all of your website gig bag descriptions. Comparison is difficult without some details.)
Otherwise, I give 5 Stars to the Spalted bass, to the flat-wound Gallistrings, and to Kala’s excellent customer service!
